Meghan Taira

Principal

Meghan Taira spent 20 years working in Congress, mostly in the Senate. Most recently, she served for 12 years as Legislative Director to Senator Schumer, including his first eight years as Minority and Majority Leader. She managed his legislative team, oversaw floor passage of bills and nominations, and served as a lead negotiator for Senate Democrats on all manner of legislation: appropriations, authorizations, reconciliation and treaties. In this role she also led the weekly Senate Democratic LDs meeting and briefed the weekly Senate Democratic Chief of Staff meeting.

Prior to becoming Senator Schumer's Legislative Director she served for six years as his Legislative Assistant for Health and Education where she served as his primary advisor in his role on the Finance Committee shaping the Affordable Care Act.

She previously was a member of Arnold and Porter LLP's Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Practice and a consultant at Avalere Health. Meghan worked for Rep. Diana DeGette of Colorado and was a Winston Health Policy Fellow in Senator Tom Daschle's office.

Meghan was born in Hawaii and raised in New York City. She graduated from Columbia University and received a Master's in Public Health from Yale University.
